I’ve always loved Christmas. The excitement of Christmas morning … the anticipation of discovering what was in those presents!

In fact I loved Christmas so much that I once saved a present all year – just so I always had something to look forward to! I picked it carefully. I had to be certain it wasn’t one of the “big” presents. But it had to be something interesting too. So after careful thought and a lot of feeling through the wrapping I made my selection. I chose what I thought was a book.

This present sat on my shelf for nearly a year – full of unrealised promise. And just before the next Christmas I opened it.

It wasn’t a book. It was a calendar … now useless.

What a crazy thing to do saving a present all year. What a sad thing to waste a good present. And yet that’s what so many people do every Christmas. They open the presents they don’t want to miss out on. And waste the one they thought they could do without. That one useful present!

Don’t make the same mistake as I did. Don’t leave Jesus unwrapped again this Christmas…
